Towards the northern side of the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, one can find the Botanical Gardens which occupies 25 hectares of landscaped ground.  Established in 1818, Governor Woodford and his gardener were mandated to fill this area with specimens of flora from around the world, and it is open daily from 6 a.m.to 6 p.m. for visiting purposes. A small cemetery also exists within the garden, being reserved for Trinidad’s governors. Sir Solomon Hochoy who was the last British Governor was buried here in 1983.
