Located at the eastern end of the Brian Lara Promenade, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception which is one of the oldest Catholic churches in the city, can be identified by its two towering columns which frame its entrance. Constructed in 1836, this edifice is shaped like a Latin Cross with limestone walls, and has an underground crypt for the purpose of placing the bodies of high ranking Catholic Church officials. The last interment took place in 2000 with the first local Archbishop of Port-of-Spain, Archbishop Anthony Pantin.
